Screen mirroring turns your Fire TV Stick into a display for anything on your phone: photos, presentations, apps that don’t have a native Fire TV version, or just showing friends something on the big screen. The process differs slightly between Android and iPhone, but both take under two minutes once set up.

    Before You Start

    Make sure of two things:

    • Your phone and Fire TV Stick are connected to the same Wi-Fi network
    • Your Fire TV Stick software is updated (Settings > My Fire TV > About > Check for Updates)

Mirroring relies on both devices communicating over local Wi-Fi, so a shared network is non-negotiable — this is the most common reason mirroring fails on the first try.

How to Mirror an Android Phone to Fire TV Stick

Most Android phones have built-in screen mirroring (sometimes called “Cast,” “Smart View,” or “Screen Mirroring” depending on the brand).

    1. Swipe down from the top of your phone to open the notification/quick settings panel.
    2. Look for Cast, Screen Mirroring, or Smart View (Samsung phones use Smart View).
    3. Tap it and wait for your phone to scan for nearby devices.
    4. Select your Fire TV Stick from the list (it will show up by its device name, e.g., “Fire TV Stick – Living Room”).
    5. Your phone screen should appear on the TV within a few seconds.

If your phone doesn’t show a native casting option, install the Amazon Fire TV app, which includes a mirroring option under its menu.

How to Mirror an iPhone to Fire TV Stick

iPhones don’t support Fire TV Stick mirroring natively the way they do with AirPlay-compatible devices, since Fire TV Stick doesn’t support AirPlay by default. You have two reliable options:

Option 1: Use a mirroring app
Install a Fire TV-compatible mirroring app (search “Screen Mirroring” in the Amazon Appstore on your Fire TV Stick), open it on the Fire TV Stick, then follow the on-screen instructions to connect from your iPhone’s Control Center under Screen Mirroring.

Option 2: Use individual app casting
Many apps (YouTube, Prime Video) have their own cast button that works between iPhone and Fire TV Stick without needing full screen mirroring — tap the cast icon inside the app instead.

    Troubleshooting Common Mirroring Issues

    Mirroring is laggy or delayed
This is almost always a Wi-Fi bandwidth issue. Move closer to your router, or pause other devices streaming/downloading on the same network.

Fire TV Stick doesn’t show up in the device list
Double-check both devices are on the exact same network — not a guest network on one and the main network on the other, which is a common oversight in shared households.

Mirroring connects but shows a black screen
Restart the Fire TV Stick (Settings > My Fire TV > Restart) and reconnect. This usually clears a stuck display session.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Q. Does mirroring drain my phone’s battery faster?

Answer.Yes, noticeably. The screen stays on and actively transmits data the entire time, so keep your phone plugged in for longer mirroring sessions.

    Q. Can I mirror my phone and still use it normally?

Answer. Depending on the app, some mirroring modes lock your phone to only show what’s mirrored, while others let you keep using your phone with only certain content (like a video) mirrored. Check your specific mirroring app’s settings.

    Q. Why does Fire TV Stick not support AirPlay directly?

Answer. AirPlay is Apple’s proprietary protocol, and Amazon Fire TV Stick doesn’t include native support for it. Third-party mirroring apps bridge this gap, though performance can vary by app.
